Founded in 1966, Superdrug has become the second largest health and beauty retailers in the UK with over 14,000 employees and an annual turnover of £1.1 billion (in 2015).
The new six-floor 55,000 sq ft building, at 51 Sydenham Road, was designed by Morgan Lovell to boost productivity, promote collaboration, increase staff engagement and support a healthy lifestyle.
Superdrug’s short distance relocation from Beddington Lane, Croydon to Sydenham Road, Croydon allowed for an increase in staff, in a updated and modern office that suits the brand heritage and the needs of the company.
Jo Mackie, Superdrug customer and people director, said: “After almost 40 years based at Beddington Lane this is a huge move for the business.
ifse were brought in to design, build and fit out the main restaurant facility, in partnership with Morgan Lovell.
The Result
The design team quickly got to work producing visualisation of each angle of the proposed restaurant, understanding exactly Superdrug’s vision for the project. The L shaped servery was designed to highlight the rustic and homemade food offering through a modern and clean presentation.
With rustic and homemade sandwiches, subs, soups, salads and hot food being served, enhancing menu offering was the key focus for the design team.
However, with the kitchen being restricted to a limited space, the design team utilised innovative and state of the art cooking technology such as SpeeDelight.
SpeeDelight creates Chef-worthy snacks in a compact shell, thanks to the combination of 3 cooking technologies: contact plates, infrared radiation and microwaves meaning your food is crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked inside. Learn more here.
The seating, sofas and furniture was designed to carry the brand theme throughout the building, but more importantly to act as a relaxing environment for staff to work, eat and relax.
“I saw the Superdrug fit out and the Café area looked really great! Nice job by you guys at ifse”
